GAS PRICES ?

Low prices will last longer than you think. The Saudis did this in the mid-80s. They are patient, have a long term outlook, and a low cost of production. They are tired of losing market share both to other producers and to alternatives. Certain political motives have been speculated as well, but who knows. In any event, my belief is that prices will be low for a couple of years at least, and won't get back to where they were for considerably longer than that.

There's been quite a bit of speculation on talk radio and Sunday news programs, but the gist of it is, no one saw this coming. At least, no one I've heard of yet. Which means they likely are not 100% sure why it IS happening. I believe efficient vehicles play a part, but when folks go off the unemployment roles because they've given up looking for work, there's a lot less driving going on. We've heard there was a glut of not just crude, but gasoline, and in order for the industry to keep functioning, they must make it attractive to use more fuel, otherwise they'll have to start mothballing facilities. Only so many places to store it after all.

If the economy was doing "fine" on $3.00/gal, can you imagine how it will do when everybody has an extra $100/week discretionary loot in the wallet? That's $400/ month for me that's not going into my tank! That's not small potatoes, and if the powers that be can't see that, then we truly have no hope, because they really are out of touch with the average person who's paying the tax bill.

Hey, maybe they can tax us into prosperity, huh?

The Saudis have driven down the price of oil to cut off oil funding to Iran and decrease US oil production. The side effect is that it is ruining the Russian economy (oil exporter) while boosting our economy (oil importer). Russian and Iranian influences won't let it last for long, without an act of war. A single act of war in the middle east will drive oil prices up instantly.

Interesting read. Really doubt gas will be anywhere near $4.00 in the near future.

I do not know if the prices will last, I figure the oil barons are trying to figure a way to jack it up but they may be running out of tricks, After all you can only set fire to so many Refineries.

I shop a local Supermarket that gives "Fuel Points" last time I filled up I gave the clerk a 10 ad a 5 and had to go get the 5 back. (That was my car) time before that,, I had enough left from $15.00 to get coffee (And a coin), and that was without fuel points.. I'm liking these prices. Must wish I could gas up the motor home, but alas, need a new motor first.

Here in Austin, they are back over $2.00 a gallon. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the $4 range by Memorial Day, just because OPEC turned off the taps.

That's the same thing I've read. I've also read where prices should remain low for most of this year. Can't wait to fill the CTD and hit the road. Reg is actually still dropping here in Salem Oregon. Down to $1.88. Diesel is down to $2.34. Heck I'd be tickled to death with diesel at $2.50.

Gas will go up but indications are it will get no where $3.00 any time soon, probably not until 2016. The big oil price bubble over the past 6 years may have truly crashed like the housing market did some years back. Realistically it's going to go up but balance out. I don't think we'll see $4 again for a long time.

It won't last forever. Either crude prices will eventually rise and the price of the refined products will rise with it, or crude will stay low and the government will raise the fuel taxes since they know that the economy can function with $3.00 plus fuel prices. You can almost bet that any fuel tax increase will be a temporary increase that will be rolled back just as soon as hell freezes over.
