Gas prices, weather and wildfires...

Every year forces beyond our control seem to be getting worse and worse. What's this season gonna be like?

In BC, we have had record high gas prices this month at $1.639 a liter (almost $5 US a gal.)!! Can't wait to see what the summer will bring. :(

BC has had several small wildfires this year already. We haven't even had our annual snow melt and flood threats. 2018 was pretty bad for wildfires all over and it looks like they are to be expected every summer now. Seems like planned trips need to take into account what wildfires can do to your routes and reservations. We're going to do our annual long trip (3 weeks) earlier in June this time and stay nearer to the coast instead of our usual late Aug./early Sept. and have to dodge fires.

We've always started our camping season on the Easter long weekend. We've had CG reservations for weeks and I took the cover off our TT a few weeks ago in preparation. After a lot of snow & cold in Feb., we had a few really nice days in late Feb./early March. I even unearthed the lawn tractor and mowed our lawn in a T-shirt. But the last few weeks has been miserably cold and wet. :M We cancelled our Easter camping trip yesterday. What's the point of sitting inside and watching TV when we can do the same at home? Not sure when the weather will turn around and stay with us, pffft. Can't count on Mother Nature playing nice anymore.

On the bright side, I can't get outside to wash 'n wax the TV or TT and that doesn't bother me at all. :B
  • Meanwhile no one in America and to have noticed that gas prices ticked up $1.50 since our last election. Oil lobby? We don't have anything to do with special interests.
  • Yeah, noticed that. We're up in BC every weekend now recently and noticed a few major differences since last year.
Gas is ungodly expensive (even moreso), the drinks at the Keg were weeeeak (but cost more than gas) and the service at Boston Pizza $ucked.
What're you guys doing to the place up there?? Lol

At 1.639 a litre the actual cost per gallon in USD based on today's exchange is $4.63. Not as bad as $5/gal but still outrageous. Here in Eastern Ontario the price is 1.19/liter or about $3.36 USD a gallon.
Still a bit high and mostly due to various tax scams being perpetrated on the Canadian public. Can't wait until October.
The high prices here are supposed to be due to a nearby refinery in WA that shut down for maintenance or repairs. There isn't enough gas available for us from Canada so some gets imported from WA. Doesn't help that the Vancouver area only has one refinery nearby.

If California is in short supply, WA state gas will get shipped to them before us. Another reason why we can have sky high prices.

If we can slip across the border, gas is around $3.29 - $3.44 USD/gal. It's times like this you see a lot of Canadians filling several extra gas cans at a time there.

We get killed on gas taxes in Canada, and the Vancouver area is worst - fed. tax, prov. tax, carbon tax, transit levy, GST/PST. Wouldn't be surprised it there's a hidden tax, "other" tax or surcharge in there too, lol!

There's been an oil war going on between Alberta & BC for a couple of years. Production there is way down. Don't understand why we don't get more oil from Alberta and build another refinery here.

By 2040, our provincial gov't wants all cars and trucks sold to be electric. Will be interesting to see how that works out.
