You might be surprised how much of a spark can be generated by that big electromagnetic clutch on your a/c compressor. You know, the one right behind that big belt-driven fan that's sucking all those gas fumes in?
BTW, the law actually says it's illegal to have your "ignition on" it doesn't specify gas or diesel for exactly that above reason.
Ac compressors are on the roof. If the ac clutch on a truck is putting out sparks you got troubles.
You don't have, or use, the a/c on the chassis?
If you don't think that the brushes and / or clutch linings don't make a little spark as they do their best hing you might one day get a nasty surprise.
It doesn't take much of a spark to light up gas fumes, that's why it's illegal to fill jerry cans while sitting on the plastic box liner of a pickup in most jurisdictions.
