As my neighbour Doug ( ^^^^^ ) probably heard, a car near here was hit the other day with a tire coming off another car.
It doesn't have to be a transport to throw a tire. There was also a case a couple years back where a scrap of plywood got vacuumed out of the box of a pickup, the wind caught it and converted forward speed into vertical speed and it became a Frisbee. It sliced right through the roof of a car, thankfully landing in an empty seat.
