We had a pretty interesting one couple years ago. And my hats off to the cops on this one. Something blew out of a pick up and lady very seriously injured. Cops took finger prints of the piece that flew out and held them responsible. Don't know how it turned out in the end, but I thought it was good idea.
I remember that incident very well...that was the Maria Federici blinding- poor woman is permanently disabled due to an idiot's failure to secure the load he had in the rented trailer he was towing. It's true that they tracked him down via fingerprints found on the entertainment center that flew out of the trailer. Excellent police work!
But I'm still choking on the fact that U-Haul has to pay 67% of the 15 million dollar judgement awarded to the victim. link Certainly she deserves every penny, but I think it outrageous that anyone but that irresponsible guy that didn't secure the load should be held in any way liable.
