Generally speaking, can you remove the dinette?

I've been wanting to remove one of the bench seats in my dinette (the bench between the table and the living area), I figure I can use a couple of folding chairs if I need to. Unfortunately, the hot water heaters under that seat. What's that old saying about the best laid plans...

Maybe I'll take another look at it in the future. It shouldn't be hard to move the heater under the other bench seat and just cover up the old opening with an aluminum sheet, pop rivets and some paint.
