The fact is it's a gas engine that makes noise that can easily be heard ... to abate this as much as I can I run mine in the back of my Avalanche, adding a vented lid so I can close the tail gate. In addition I also built a noise reduction box in which the genset itself sits so in combination the end result is MUCH quieter ... regardless, it CAN still be heard running.

SoundGuy...man, that is a nice set up! Thanks for the link with all the great pics!!
Since writing that post I spent the weekend at a nearby conservation area campground so I could make sure everything in the trailer is working as it should for our upcoming camping season and to test out a few things I've come up with over the winter, including my genset noise reduction box. This conservation area is located in a country setting with not much around it so it's very quiet, particularly at this time of year when there are still only a few of us diehards out spring camping. Gotta say, even I was really surprised at how effective this genset noise reduction box is ... with my Avalanche parked at the front of the campsite, in front of the trailer with the truck facing out to the campsite road, my Honda EU2000i running at full tilt was
just barely perceptible. I also took a walk along the campground road past my campsite as others would do and came to the same conclusion - just barely perceptible. In some ways I'm kinda disappointed as I had hoped that the box itself wouldn't make that much difference and I could instead run the genset sitting in the Av's cargo compartment, without the box, but the reality is that sealing the genset in the box which then sits within the Av's cargo compartment really is the most effective method of dampening down the noise to the point where it's hardly noticeable.
