Well, I just bought solar for my house in Southern California. Installation will be in May.
My utility bill should be zero with 63 solar roof panels. I will be grandfathered in at .16 a kWh. Any surplus will be purchased at .025 kWh (highway robbery) LOL!
They are expecting an eight year payback, then it will be gravy!
I did ask the sales guy if we would have sufficient solar for an electric car and he said yes. He knew exactly how much power would be needed for such.

We are getting the most up to date solar panels available (360 watts each). Our house is all electric with air conditioning/heat pumps (26 tons of air with 7 units). We only use natural gas for the fireplaces and pool/jacuzzi heat.
My $2K per month summer utility bill will be zero...yeee ha! If we were not locked in to .16 kWh for 25 yrs., our 8.3 yr. pay out would be faster as it will be going up to .29 kWh in the upper tier. And, we always seemed to reach tier three super fast. (hot in the summer in the desert!).
