We live on an island that at this time of year is finally becoming isolated once again. Three weeks ago the locals held an end-of-summer party on the beach with 120 people. 20+ known cases from that. Two weeks ago a local church group held a gathering where they had a communal meal. 15+ cases from that.
Will they die? Unquestionably the odds favor their survival - talking about deaths is just a way to distract attention from the real problem. Will they have lingering effects? Unknown. Did they cost all of us serious $$$ to treat them and, in 3 cases, give them a helicopter ride to a mainland hospital that could deal with the severity level. Yes, that it did. We are all paying, in one form or another, the cost of all of these people getting sick and requiring medical attention.
Will masks stop this? The mosquito and fence analogy is just silly because of course a mask can't stop a virus, they are meant to limit the velocity of the particles that the virus is catching a ride on. Quite frankly after reading comments on these forums I truly believe we haven't a prayer of stopping this, so we may as well just figure out how to pay for it.
