It's just a lot of plain old hard work. The scientific knowledge we know and accept today was gained through diligence and painstaking effort.

You can easily make that case for the lead industry in the 60s and the petroleum industry now. It just comes down to which side you think has the more reasonable case, given the facts as presented to the "jury".

The actual greatest scam ever perpetrated in politics was when the right wing somehow got the left wing to go along with the whole "climate change" debate.
They managed to get the discussion away from whether or not pollution is bad. I think we can all agree pollution is bad. And no one could stand up with a straight face and say pollution is good so they had to reframe the debate. They found a way to do so. Big victory for them! Yay!
So we put our energy in to debating whether climate change is real or whether it is caused by man. And this comes at the expense of doing anything about pollution.
