There are not many quality experts building RV's.

If your counting on the RV industry to set the standard for quality control you are mistaken

Yeah? I've seen the results of leaving it "to the experts" and I am waaaaay less than impressed. No "expert" would send stuff out the door in the shape they do.

Grand Design offers disk brakes as an option on some of their trailers now.
And yes, trailer braking standard are woefully out of date. That's one reason I went with a 3/4-ton truck this time - bigger brakes.

I upgraded to disc brakes and they are a drastic improvement vs. my old magnetic drums. GM is correct the basic electromagnetic brakes should be upgraded. Disc brakes should be offered as an option on all models over 7K GVW.

I firmly believe that disc brakes on a trailer are an excellent idea, and should be offered as an option, or as standard equipment.

If you put hydraulic operated drum brakes, like automobile brakes, then I wouldn't be so hot for disc brakes. But those electric brakes, mostly, are fair at best.

I don't have disc brakes on my triple axle toyhauler because I simply can't justify it, and have no desire to spend that much money.

I agree with you. I was pointing out how GM is trying to sell us on how our trailers need disc brakes when their own vehicles do not all have rear dis brakes. It seems like the standard marketing solution looking for a problem. IMOP GM should be fixing the perceived problem by going to all disc brakes on all their vehicles before they try to sell the public with disc brakes and their whiz bang new solution for a non problem.
I just pulled my trailer home a few hours ago. My setup with 4 wheel drum brakes on the trailer always stops faster and more sure then just the Suburban alone. If your trailer brakes do not do the same you need either a better brake controller or some work on the brakes themselves.

I put disks on my old trailer. Self adjusting is just one of the benefits.

It appears that GM wants trailers to be equipped with disc brakes. Like that's ever going to happen. We can't even get self-adjusting drum brakes on our trailers let alone disc brakes.
It's a shame trailer manufacturers don't want trailers equipped with disc brakes.
