Going "cheap" - a new "rant" - just wondering "why?"

To me, the word "cheap" does associate with low-quality. Just the way I've heard the word as I was growing up. I do want quality stuff when I buy, so now I use "inexpensive" instead of "cheap". To me, that means I'm looking for low-cost, but not necessarily low-quality.
