I think this really boils down to what someone considers important to them. And that's different for each of us. And I'm really glad that we all don't have to follow someone else's idea of how they think things should be done.
It doesn't make sense to me to stock my trailer with expensive things for what amounts to a few weeks a year of use. We use paper plates, flatware purchased at rummages sales, comforters purchased from an estate sale, etc. And you know what? We're perfectly happy with what we have and it has all served us well for many years.
We tend not to overnight in free places, although when traveling distances we have caught a few winks in waysides in the middle of the night. Didn't make much sense at the time to pop $35-$50 for a few hours of sleep.
Quite honestly, I consider the balance between price and practically. Sometimes it's well worth it to spend a little more on something, sometimes it's not.
So here's a question, if you are not "cheap", are you saying that you have only expensive brand name cutlery and dishes in your rig, and that when you eat out you only eat at expensive restaurants?
