Don't be too sure about that "being safe" part :)
We went 2 years ago and my wife made a good comment. She said: "I don't know how anyone can feel safe walking on top of one of the world's biggest supervolcanoes. One day this thing is going to blow and people will question the sanity of making a national park and encouraging millions of visitors to go wandering around on top of a supervolcano."
Nevertheless, we loved our trip and enjoyed seeing all the sites!
