You know, there are enough people in the world trying to scam me without adding companies I do business with to the list.
Just last week, I had a voicemail from "the IRS" stating they had filed suit against me and I needed to call 979 something to hear the case file. That sounded bogus, so I googled it and found it was a scam to try and scare people to cough up a payment.
A couple of nights ago I got a call from "Windows Technical Support" by some Indian guy. I hung up on him, looked that one up and found they try to con you into giving them remote access to your PC, whereupon you either pay them for some bogus virus removal service or they will delete a bunch of files off your system.
I've had to have 2 credit cards replaced in the last 8 or 9 months because car washes apparently use an insecure point of sale system that is easy to hack into. I got bogus charges a few weeks later that looked like they were from the two car washes, but were not anywhere close to the dates I had used them. This is on top of the preemptive replacements a couple of my cards (I have 3) did due to the Target and Home Depot data breaches, so I'm on my 3rd number on one card and 2nd number on the other two within the last year.
When I got back from my latest RV trip a few weeks ago, I had tons of mail from companies sticking their nose into my business. Among other things, I had 3 official looking "offers" to extend the warranty on my 8 year old F250, a couple of offers to buy it, an offer to buy my Jetta, and a letter from State Farm about how it is better to insure my RV with them. How they know I have an RV I'm not sure.
So, am I testy about what I saw as another in an endless series of attempts to con me out of money? Yes!
