Specifically about the (now Comenity) Good Sam credit card: When our Good Sam card suddenly didn't work last year, it was because Comenity had taken over and sent new cards to all holders of the "old" Good Sam credit cards. All contact about the change was done by regular mail. I think (and my telephone conversations with Comenity seem to confirm this) that they didn't understand that many of the Good Sam CC users travel A LOT and therefore won't know about alerts, changes, etc, if they're only sent via snail mail. We're full-timers and sometimes go months without getting our "normal" mail forwarded.
Comenity are getting better at doing things on-line (according to my financial adviser, aka the wife). We now can see "pending" transactions sooner, and when there was a recent possible "compromise" of data at a store, they were able to send a replacement card to our actual location rather than our "permanent" address.
It's been a learning curve thing for Comenity, I think they're doing better than they were at first.
