I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm sure it is upsetting. Glad your dogs (and you) were not injured physically. And I wish I had a magic wand I could wave and send the perps straight to a certain overly warm place.
We all need to be aware that there are evidently knowledgeable thieves about and take precautions. I'm not sure what the OP could have done to prevent this other than stop elsewhere -- but of course, you never know where "the bad spot" is until it's too late.
