The rub is that let's say they close come Thursday, there will be no one to call and ask if the parks are open or closed. Chiricahua NM is pretty much out in the sticks, don't really want to drive all the way there to find out it's closed.
You're driving 'way out there' from where? Is that the only place you want to visit?
If it's closed there's still more to see in the area. Are you a hiker? If so, hike Cochise Stronghold trail - entrance from 191 at Sunsites. There's a nice campground there and lots of Acorn Woodpeckers to entertain you!
Then take 191 to I-10. At Benson you could take Hwy 90 south to Kartchner Caverns State Park. Do a tour of the Rotundra Room and stay at their very nice campground with electric and a dump station.
From Kartchner you could do some nice day trips - to Tombstone, Bisbee, Sierra Vista and hike the pleasant canyon trails. It's about 50 miles to Tucson but you could also work in some day trips there.
Your trip shouldn't be at an absolute loss. But as I stated earlier, Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is a gem so keep your reservation... just in case.
By the way.... it's not out in the 'sticks'. It's out in the desert. :) ... not many 'sticks'!
