Several years ago, during a budget shut down, the park service spent a ton of money putting up portable barriers around the WWII Memorial. There were several Honor Flight tours that day. These Veterans, pushed aside the barriers and toured THEIR Memorial anyway. The comments were more or less, "We did not stop on the Beaches of Normandy when we were being shot at and we will not stop for a these barriers either". It was all a POLITICAL PLOY that did not work, only made citizens upset because a handful of politicians can not work for the good of the citizens, but only for their own causes.
