We don't use a GPS. We use google maps to plan the length of travel between stops as well as to find campgrounds. Once you have google maps up - type in the search box -- rv parks and camgrounds near _________. It will bring them up, you can click on them and connect to any website they have to learn more. We also have a paper atlas but the google maps will let you move in close up and even gives a streetview so you are down on the street and can see into the park, or can see what businesses and landmarks are around where you want. You can view condition of the road and actually move along the road to check everything out.
