Newbienac US Hiways. Than state hiways. They're very obvious on a map. The map will show US hiways as a white shield with a number in it and state hiways are a white circle with a number.
Generally 50-55 mph--maybe some expressway--2 or more lanes--well maintained--towns along the way--generally more scenery than interstates. A bunch of US hiways go coast to coast. I went from Michigan on an 8,500 mile trip out west using mainly US and state hiways.
