GPS for rvs

Does anyone have experience with the Rand McNally rvnd5510 GPS? If so likes and dislikes would be appreciated. We are getting ready to buy one and leaning towards this one. Thanks for any info. Tara
  • ok now we are rethinking. We have a garmin for our car and really like it, but seen what rand McNally offered on their rv gps and thought that might be better. There are three we are considering. The Rand McNally, Garmin and the megellen. Prob didn't spell that right, anyway we just want a good one. So yes please let us know your experience with any of these. Thanks to everyone so far that has let us know how theirs work. Really appreciate the responses. Thanks Tara
  • With any RV GPS you have to program/set it up correctly with your info. Most problems come from NOT doing this.

We are very satisfied with our 7710 and would buy another.
  • We have a Garmin 765. It doesn't compare with the Rand McNally unit. The 7710 shows side roads, where the 765 does not until you zoom in so far.
I like the 7710 giving information on campgrounds as you near them. (I have an APP added).
The 7710 gives some traffic information such as speed reduction, curves and down grades.
I will say again, If tou don't keep it up to date, any GPS becomes incomplete and slow.
  • Someone asked about Magellan. I have two of them, and I regret it. Just got map updates, first in a long time, and it STILL does not have the I-69 road that was opened almost a year ago in Indiana. This is a major route from Canada to Mexico, a very important road. How could they have missed it?

And my subdivision (10 yrs old) still isn't on it, either.

I note that every mapping program I've tried on my iPhone - Maps, Google Maps, and Mapquest - have both of these things, and have had them a long time.

The last time I used Magellan, twice it took me off Major, divided highways and took me on back roads for no reason, out of my way. Well, it tried twice: I ignored it the second time.

I have nothing but contempt for Magellan.
  • I bought the RM TND710, 7 inch truckers model, about a year before they announced the RV models. I understand they now come with weather and wifi. This was our first and only GPS and we have been very satisfied. There is a learning curve on all the settings, and they seem to know when I am catching on so they keep issuing updates and improvements to keep me on my toes. Haven't seen a need to get one with RV specific programming but if/when I do it will probably be a RM.
  • ok we have decided and we are going to go with McNally 7710. Thanks to everyone for their advise! Very appreciated :) Tara
