I'm sticking to the idea that we have different satellites in Canada. That is a much more satisfactory answer anyway. Plus, ours are in French so as to be able to find poutine and syrup.

BTW- for anyone looking at a new GPS, or even smartphone, if you have the option of GPS/ GLONASS, pay the difference for it. Tests in San Diego and San Francisco showed a vast improvement in consistency, especially in metro areas.
