GPS strikes again

Take one GPS add two incautious people get this:

I had to fight off the urge to tag those folks with something other than incautious.
  • I think the biggest single mistake I see people making with a GPS is setting it for the "Shortest Route". In some areas, that route will have you following the cows to the barn over an unmaintained back road. Setting it to the "Fastest Route" will usually keep you on better roads, albeit a bit longer ones. Having a pretty good idea of what the road conditions on your route should be though, whether from paper maps, online maps, or satellite views, is always a good idea of course, so you know pretty quickly when something goes awry.
  • Lucky would be a good description. I guess you’re never too old to learn.
This type of incident is going to become more and more common. A lot of young people today have absolutely no clue on how to read a map. Apparently some old ones don’t either.
  • I also could think of more fitting words to use.

It's surprising we don't see more stories like this as more people rely (and trust) on electronics for navigation.
