Guess the California drought is over!!

Got a week of crabbing coming up. We have postponed a Monday arrival in Bodega because they are expecting 4.5 inches of rain and wind,,big wind.
Gotta say on one hand I am glad we are getting rain,, but I stand to loose some good money because I might not even be able to get in there,,let alone launch a 16' boat in big swells.

Hope I don't have to sit this one out!!

Shasta lake is full or near it. A couple years ago it was the lowest I have ever seen. We have had huge amounts of rain in the PalmSprings, CA area this winter and the mountains are getting plenty of snow.
  • The Crabs are going on strike? I suppose they want minimum wage too... :-)

We were at Tomales Bay (Lawson's Landing) and Bodega last week. Yes, they are on strike so as to put pressure on processor pricing ($2.75 lb). The commercial crabbers have had a brutal year due to being shut down in much of the state because of Domoic Acid / Mercury. That has since lifted. Once the processors strike a price at $3.00 lb, they will be back out on the water. Hopefully soon. For us consumers, expect to get hype priced at some ridiculous number.

@jake2250, where do you stay up in Bodega? We did some scouting and drove through Bodega Dunes, Wrights Beach and Doran Park. Any tips?
  • The difference between weather and climate is where a lot of people get confused. Weather is what you see out the window. Climate is what happens over much longer periods of time. The two should not be confused.

Are you crabbing commercially? Guys were talking strike over price.
  • I've been here on Earth for a few years and the DW and I have loved the television news show's take on the weather through the years. We've had some great folks reporting the weather and from Dr. George to the sexy ladies to the NMS certified "Weather Forecasters".

I mentioned being here for a long time because I have had time to listen to these folks trying to sound like they are scientists. They aren't scientists, they are somewhat educated odds makers. Jimmy the Greek had a better record of wins and loses. The draught will be over when it's over and Fat Ladies aren't in vogue and they aren't singing. It is definitely more fun for me at least, to watch the sexy gals giving what may or may not be when the sun will shine and when it will rain. In the mean time, I've got Clouds in my Coffee.

Shasta filled up real quick early last spring. But with California so large, the north state may get most of the precip while the south still faces a drought - or they call it that even though the south is desert. That's why we ship our water down to the desert area. IMHO
