- mockturtleExplorer IIMost sociopaths lack a conscience so locking them up for life 'to think about what they've done' is a waste of our resources. They need to be put to death. The only reason some of the 'beg for the death penalty' is that they hope it will have the reverse effect.
- deleted-2ExplorerThe Haas family sure has had a lot of grief.
- ReneeGExplorerSuch a sad, but just, ending for all. I remember this story and that the Haas's had a little dog that ran off. They never found it if I remember correctly.

Hard for me to fathom something like this.
Reading about this whole thing is terrifying to me.
I can visualize starting out happy and excited about traveling then crossing paths with a monster like this.
The DW and I would probably have little chance against an evil horribly violent sociopath.
How many super violent killers are wandering the country as we speak?
I agree. In all of our travels we have always been blessed with meeting wonderful RV'ers and all it would take is one creep like this. No wonder we can be leery of new people and untrusting. - deleted-2Explorer

I was wondering about the dog also Renee.
Makes this whole thing even more despicable :( - larry_barnhartExplorerJust pull out your gun and start the bullet flying near them if you feel that threaten of course you will be arrested. The crooks always win.
chevman - MerrykaliaExplorerAs an LEO, I have had the opportunity to visit a "super max" prison where the worst of the worst are sent that DON'T get a death sentence. It definitely doesn't have a gym, it has a "yard" that inmates can get outside. It's about 100' X 100' and surrounded by 15' high razor-wire fence or other buildings, as well as fencing across the top. There are several guard towers with snipers and they don't utilize rubber bullets. This is for the regular inmates.
The ones that are in solitary confinement have an 8 X 8 cell with a window that is 4" across by about 4' tall, a concrete bed and a 2" piece of mattress, a toilet and a small sink (8"). They are out of their cell for 30 minutes each day and can go into a yard, which is a 10' X 20' room with 15' block walls and the top is open to the sky, but does have razor-wire fencing across the top. They get to shower twice a week.
It's not really a nice place to be, it is NEVER quiet, it is never dark and someone is watching you most all the time. There is always a way to GET to someone, so you never feel secure.
I was never a proponent of the death penalty, but I do feel that if it is a crime where torture is used or a child is involved, then the death penalty is called for. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII don't agree with majority of ideas, way of life etc. in Middle Eastern Countries but the one concept I do like is there prison system.
When convicted the gov. is responsible for confinement........the family of criminal is responsible for their food, clothing, medical etc.
Tough luck if your family doesn't provide - herbhofmannExplorerPeople have forgotten that the purpose of the death penalty is to uphold the sanctity of life. The idea is, "You take a life, you forfeit your life." Sadly, the "game" of trial by a jury of your peers has become one of winning at all costs, not finding the truth. I think in the long run, everyone loses-even the person who commits the crime.
The idea of the Penitentiary was to make the convicted felon sit and ponder his crime and come to the point of penance. It was a nice sentiment but it never worked. Now they are just warehouses where criminals can hone their craft. - mockturtleExplorer II
