That's only because they spend too long on death row (two years would be adequate) and have far too many appeals (one is enough).sdianel wrote:
Life in prison costs each taxpayer big bucks. Remember you are paying for this a-hole to live in a plush prison with gym, tv, game room, air conditioner, library, cafeteria food better than our kids get in school!! This scum needs to have done to him what he did to those people. Not get a free ride in prison. Remember he escaped once already when he killed them!
It costs more money for a death row inmate than a life in prison inmate. They eat up a lot more free lawyer money with extensive appeals. - 69_AvionExplorer

That is generally a true statement, except for Texas. - RoadLifeExplorer

We had just returned from Vancouver Island, where the two elderly Canadians has apparently also been murdered.
These two incidents highlighted a few things about RVers and criminals.
What do those on the run need?
1. Food
2. Clothing
3. Money
4. Vehicle
What do RVers have readily available?
1. Food
2. Clothing
3. Money (in varying amounts, or credit cards)
4. Vehicle (TOAD, tow vehicle, whatever)
RVers are extremely vulnerable. Many are older, and could offer little resistance to determined and possibly armed criminals.
Many RVers pull into a rest stop for a quick nap, a lunch break, etc. Even at an RV park, they are still not safe. At the first park where we over-nighted, I looked around at my surroundings and realized just how unprotected we were.
The key, or at least a method to lessen risk, is for us all to be very aware of our surroundings. From what I have heard about the Oklahoma couple, both were armed; however, the criminals first took the wife who was walking the dog, then forced the husband to surrender. They then killed them both.
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!
gm - BobboExplorer IIIWho would otherwise sit in prison for the rest of their lives for being innocent.
The discussion of innocents being convicted is a totally separate subject. - pappcamExplorer

- wa8yxmExplorer IIIFor various reasons I do not favor the death penalty. For one thing the rational is "If they have death to fear the criminal will think twice" is false. If the criminal was thinking of anything other than how smart he is and how he'll never get caught. He's not pull the crime, Since he'll never get caught (in his mind) there is no penalty at all.
However I DO favor an arc welder.
Put him in a cell
Arc weld the door shut. - retired4fun2002ExplorerThis is one person who fully supports the death penalty - no matter what method is used, forget this human rights garbage. Someone mentioned it would be fitting to put them in general population of the prison - let's not waste the taxpayers money!! It is truly disgusting to see where some of these clowns have been on death row for 20+ years....save money and space - get rid of them. Safe travels.
- Vapor_TrailsExplorerI think Sheriff Joe Arpaio's way is about as good a system as we can expect. The fringes don't like it, the majority of us regular folks are pretty good with it.
