It's unclear from your post. Are you overweight or not?
If you are overweight, the ride will probably feel much better with the bigger truck as the suspension is better able to stand up to being pushed around by the trailer. If you are within the ratings, it may or may not feel much better.
(Think of it this way: Tackling drill where no one tries to dodge: A 14yr old tries to tackle a 300# lineman. Most likely the 14yr old bounces off. If he tries to tackle a 160# adult, there is a much better chance of a successful tackle. If it's a 50lb 6yr old doing the tackling, it really won't matter.)
Longer term with lots of miles the heavy duty truck will hold up better but it's difficult to quantify as the failures tend to be gradual.
Then as others have mentioned, the engine can make a big difference. Of course, the smallest base V8 of today will tow an awful lot of wieght. We've gotten spoiled in regards to the available power from modern engines.
