I could teach you enough to pass the Technician Class test in about four hours.
The requirements have been "dumbed-down" many times since the early 1960s.
When I took the test in 1956, I had to draw schematic diagrams of transmitter circuits, describe how they worked and the proper way of adjusting those circuits.
e.g.
1. Draw a schematic diagram of a crystal controlled oscillator intended for harmonic output.
2. Where is the feedback path in this circuit?
3. Draw a schematic diagram of a push-pull amplifier using triode vacuum tubes intended for straight through operation.
4. Describe the neutralization procedure for this amplifier.
---- eight more pages of the same kind of questions ...
There are very few people who have earned BSEEs within the last 30 years who could pass that test.
The requirement for the code test was dropped about ten years ago, so when I am talking with someone on the low end of 20M, I know he/she has been around for a while.
Yep I remember those days. Also had to have solid copy for 1 min within a 5 min message and at 20 wpm its not easy. 20 wpm is about as fast as you (I) can write letter for letter. Above 20 you learn the sound of words, as in any other language and don't ask me to copy much of any cw these days. Computers took those skills from me
