I use something like what Turtle n' Peeps linked to except mine are not the automatic kind. Mine just screw on and release air. I just use a gauge to check for the right pressure. They don't have to be removed to use a tire pressure gauge. They were like $11 from an Off-road shop.
When airing down 33" tires from 35 psi street pressure to 12 psi for rock crawling, using the bleeder valve on a tire pressure gauge would take all day. The bleeder valve on a tire gauge is for dropping a couple psi, not 10+ psi for beach driving or other off-roading. What I use release air as quick as removing the valve stem core, but it's less work.
