Handicap van conversion ?

Hi all just looking for some info on a handicap van conversion? My niece was diagnosed with Pompe disease when she was a few months old and to put it bluntly was not suppose to live to her first birthday. Well through the grace of God and enzyme therapy we just celebrated her 4th birthday and she is obviously getting bigger. She is wheel chair dependant and on a respirator. Does medicaid help out with the expense of the conversion? Are there grants to help out with the conversion? They will most likely start by looking at a Toyota Sienna for the conversion through Toyota's mobility program.
  • Braun and Vantage Mobility, both real good companies, convert small mini-vans with ramps and lowered floors. They use a variety of vans. I think I would go with one of them. We are using our second mobility van from vantage mobility based on a dodge caravan and have zero issues.
  • 35000 dollars was a ball park number three years ago. The Toyota dealerships did not come off of list much and in fact had a bogus local destination adder to the sticker price. Had to walk out of the dealership 3 times to get some thing closer to the internet ratings pricing.

  • My Grandson has been in a wheelchair or a special stroller since he was 3 months old. This is the company that my daughter got her vans from. They list some prices on used and that may give you a ballpark idea. She also got financial assistance but I am not sure who she got it from. I will ask her later today when she gets off work and edit.

My daughter said the dealer helped her locate a grant plus Toyota has a small rebate for the conversion.
  • Here's a website for a company that you might want to look at I found it and have a dealer local as my said with my neuropathy getting worse I may need to go to had controls as I'm losing all feeling in my feet. :( But they deal with handicap vans and such and atleast you would have some info....and the company has many locations http://www.unitedaccess.com/#

We have had a Sienna for three years now that was modified for a scooter lift. The elevation and openness of the car with the sliding doors provides lots of opportunity for handicap access customization.
The state of Texas will provide assistance through waiver of sales tax if permanent significant modifications are made to the car. On a 40000 dollar vehicle that is about 3200 dollars

Thank you.. Is $40,000 in the ball park of what a base model Sienna with a conversion like yours will cost? Thanks again, Darrin.
