That's exactly how the DW and myself feel about those folks standing places with signs asking for help. As much and as often as we can, we give them a few $$ and maybe some encouraging words.
It's not our concern on "how they're going to use the $$". Our concern is to almost unquestioningly help right on the spot.
Their reward is right then and there, while our reward is both then and there and for all eternity when millenniums later we perhaps meet them again and they remember us.
