They were not blocked at the time but someone may need access while you are waiting in line to pay for your mayo. In addition parking next to a building or not in a designated parking spot can be a situation where a Fire Marshall can cite as well.
I hate manuevering in gas stations because someone will not park in designated spots which leaves narrow areas to move around in. Yes it is an inconveince to park in a designated spot but that's what they are designed for.
