Some times like when going into gas stations the ramps on my tow dolly rub against the bottom of my car (Ford Fusion 2010) and bends the swivel plate up a inch or so, my ball hitch has about a 2 1/2" ...

Our Demco Kar Kaddy manual states that the hitch should be around 18 inches from the ground for best performance. I had to use a straight hitch to provide the right height. Straight hitches are not easy to find. Read your manual and see what height they recommend your hitch be from the ground.
