Jeezuz, you're lucky they covered it by warranty as neglect isn't usually covered. That's more than double what the hitch is rated for. What did you expect would happen?
I stand by my post that not much can go wrong with a Hensley but will add "when used within its limits". Failures are rare.
I remember when he first posted about his failure on this forum but his pictures no longer show up so I have found another post about it
and don't think neglect was involved at all.
According to
this post, he ran it by Hensley before using the hitch and they said that their hitch would work for his tongue weight. That is most likely the reason they were willing to cover his loss and why he expected them to do so.
I agree with you that failures of the hitch are rare. I have had mine for quite a few years now and have had no problems at all.
