If people would take a safe driving course it teaches to plan when you drive and that includes merging.
You are correct, that most people do not drive, or merge as they should.
So, you as the safe driver must drive for them also.
I always am looking for outs and driving as far ahead and as far behind as possible to plan for situations developing on the road.
If only all drivers would take a course. And even though we do drive that way a refresher is always good.
