Wonder how many of those merger idiots are on their mobile phone and wait until they get to the end of the ramp before deciding what to do?
When I lived in Pittsburgh, about 35 years ago, it was common on short ramps for the traffic to come nearly to the end, then stop and look over their shoulders. That left me behind them, in an under-powered VW Beetle, trying to get up to speed, uphill, in no distance at all. I got to the point where I'd hang back and anticipate this behavior. Nothing against Yinzers, but it really irritated me. (Said as someone who has a Midland dialect.)
