Alas. That is based on observation, Used to sit in an office that had access to over 150 traffic cameras and we could watch the idiots.. There is a whole lot more I could type about but it's dinner time.
I have a pet theory that postulates the "point and shoot" driving style is largely due to the rise of the automatic transmission. People get disengaged from the mechanics of motor vehicle operation when it's too easy. They stop looking farther down the road than the end of their car's hood, and any little thing that startles them causes them to instinctively stomp on the brake pedal.
