Hitches

Looking at hitching systems. You have the Hensley, the pro pride and the Blue ox. Can we discuss the differences?
  • The three you mentioned are all good hitches, especially if you've got the budget for them. IMHO "the most bang for the buck" is the Reese Dual Cam. Maybe it doesn't prevent sway like the HA ads like to say, but I can tell you that in 12+ years of coast-to-coast towing our rig has never been anything less than rock-solid on the road.
  • Of the three, the Blue Ox is the least expensive and arguably one of the best WDH styles available.
  • Dodge Guy,

I am not a fanboy of the BlueOx but it is not a Friction sway control hitch. There are no friction sway control points on the hitch at all. Sway control is built into the hitch design itself. No friction control needed.

The BlueOx uses a fixed pitch hitch head, spring bars, and WD bar retainers to control the sway before it ever starts. No friction points that I can see in the instructions.. Sway control is accomplished by controlling movement and using geometry.

    Thanks!

    Jeremiah
  • Blue Ox? hardly compares with the the HA or PP! the HA or PP are both excellent hitches with many happy customers! the Blue Ox is nothing more than a standard friction WD hitch with some fancy wording. If going with something other than the HA or PP I would go with the Reese Dual Cam. I have used it on my 35ft 9200lb TT for the last 9 years and 2 years prior to that on a 28 ft TT. never had one issue and it keeps the trailer straight behind my Excursion.
  • I believe the Blue Ox has a stronger capacity than the other 2 mentioned above.

Hensley or Pro-Ride if you've got the $$, or otherwise Reese Straight Line, Equal-I-zer, or Blue Ox Pro are good options. They all work differently.
  • Check out the Pro-Pride website, they are more than happy to tell you the differences from the original Hensley. Can't go wrong with either.
