Our F250 is all black, it's a super cab with long box and canopy and is 4WD. Has plenty of testosterone and looks bigger and more bad *ss compared to many other trucks. However it has a wimpy girly-sounding horn like you'd have in a Honda Civic and is almost embarrassing to use.Have been thinking about an upgrade to something louder. It would be nice to have something that couldn't be missed when I need to use it, especially when towing our TT. Don't want to spend a lot or something super loud like a train sounding air horn. Is there a typical sort of horn to upgrade to in a truck?

Those air horns really are not all that manly. had them on my Honda goldwing and they were ok, just not what ya think. The fiamms at the same place can be loud but they are of the european sound, I do have them on my ranger and they work. Also put them on another motorcycle. They would be better than the air horns. best bet would be to try and find some off older vehicles in wrecking yards, back from the day when we were not so PC and had to have less offensive horns.

I bought a cheap air horn kit at oreilly and it worked surprisingly well.I wired it in with my regular horn for the extra noise and it works like a charm. Even when i lock my truck with the keyfob lolOne of these days i want to hit up a junk yard and find an old 18wheeler air horn system and hook it up!

I have on board air for the PacBrake, bought a very nice Kline Air Horn. Works very well.

Well mine are a twin trumpet unit. Same a semi would use. Keep in mind many have the music cranked up so loud that you need about 110 db just to be heard.

I was driving in town here a few years ago and approaching one of our rail crossings that just started flashing. Someone in a vehicle nearby had a train horn and thought it would be funny to lean on it near the tracks. Wasn't funny to me at the time and scared the absolute beejeebers out of me, especially since I had the upcoming trains on my mind. :E

I love my Hadley air horns. If you do go with air horn be sure to use long tube horns as you will not be happy with short tube horns.

Look on Amazon for a Freeway or Highway Horn!! they are loud!

I MISS my air horns!

I just put them on my to do list for this Summer.

I did, thanks. Would never have known to look for a "freeway" or "highway" horn.

I just ordered a Fiamm Freeway Blaster Horn on ebay for under $20. Says "big rig sound - twice as loud" and it's made in the US. Should be a simple swap with the OEM horn and hopefully will be loud enough.

Thanks for the other suggestions.

Horns are usually installed in pairs, high and low. Used to be the go to for motorcycle upgrades, however not as loud as stebel or hella.

I would think it's still an upgrade..

Interesting, didn't know that. I was going to leave the old one (high pitched) in place, but probably won't be loud enough. I'll see how the new one does.

I thought it odd these are sold as singles and only low available. Maybe cars are starting to go to single horn.. haven't done this type of upgrade in a long time.
