You missed the my post where I said that as soon as they begin to come into my lane, I touch the brake with my right foot. This does several things, it alerts the traffic behind me, it cancels the cruise control, and my vehicle decelerates. Then, by that time, I've applied some pressure to the brake pedal, and the offender arrives into my lane. Also, if by that time, he/she were to slam on the brakes, there would be ample distance between us to do what I need to do (recall that I started to slow down before they did, and I'm in full control of my rig). Another thing is that my toad and my 2 trailers are equipped with inertia brakes. I've never jacked-knifed a towed anything.

the point that I didn't miss was you said that you have been cut off and then said it doesn't happen??

What,....you do not react and slow down the instant a vehicle comes into sight from the side? If you don't immediately take into account the trajectory, and you allow yourself to end up only a few feet ahead of you, when a few seconds previously you had several car-lengths of daylight ahead of you, then it's on you. THAT'S the part I don't believe happens (that way). Otherwise, everyone who has been "cut off" would end up being involved in an accident.

I am sure that at some time in my overseas traVELS that I have had horse meat, don't remember the name given it in Italy however.

This right here is why I think they should close it! the replies have gotten so crazy its not even worth reading anymore! including the one defining "stupid" for me.

21st century Americans...all only a few generations removed from a time when no one would care about eating pets. I wouldn't have put it past my great-grandparents to have eaten a dog, horse, cat, etc. during the great depression...where the alternate possibility was starvation. Naturally, many MANY other cultures across the world would not object to eating an animal that we so endearingly refer to as our pet. What makes your cat different than a bobcat, you're dog different than a coyote, your horse different than a cow. Just that they were fortunate enough to born in a place where people don't commonly eat them.

OK, I'll ask these questions: At what speed are you going when all these other drivers "cut you off" and slam their brakes in front of you? Also, at what point of the accident were you aware that the offending vehicle was along side of you, and at what point of the event did the offending vehicle begin to come over into your lane?

It's different with a loaded horse trailer, though - your load is top-heavy by nature (horses being the leggy critters they are) and your load can startle and shift THEIR combined weight of probably a ton. Simple, it's a matter of me driving differently than you. Towing a trailer, I do NOT swerve! If I'm driving, why would I choose to swerve versus just touching the brake with my right foot, therefore DE-celerating, while the idiot is still trying to complete his "cutting me off". If I make contact, HIS vehicle is at an angle, but still moving. He's the one that's out of control, NOT me. I'm not waiting for him to get completely in my lane, and THEN he slams the brakes. In the first place, I'm already in the decelerating mode by the time he straightens out and hits the brake. THEN, if I do make contact, I send him forward, BUT I'm still in control of my rig. My rig is heavier than his. If I concentrate on simply staying in control of my rig, I win.
Things simply do NOT happen THAT quickly, for me. I drive as if every driver out there is out to crash me. And, I'm aware of the vehicles all around me, and what they are getting ready to do. They're either going the same speed as I am, or slower, or faster. I profile them and anticipate what they might do. And, I try to be ready. I drive in a very responsible manner. But, I also believe in good, and in bad, LUCK. All you can do is try. I just wish everyone drove like I do.

You should first check the law in your state. My understanding is that we all have a legal responsibility to avoid accidents if we are able regardless of who was in the right or who was in the wrong. That dashcam footage may end up convicting YOU.

No I am not a lawyer or law enforcement. That's why I said check the state law.

Now that Cloud Dancer has made his earlier statement clearer, I agree 100 percent. I have a responsibility to those in MY vehicle, to safely get them to where we are going. If that means rear ending the idiot that just took my safety zone and slammed on his brakes, I will brake, but not to the point that I jackknife my rig.
I am sure I could easily find a lawyer to defend my actions.

If I were to brake and swerve to "Avoid" the accident of hitting him, and put my rig in the ditch, or off the road and destroy my TV and trailer, I am 100 percent that Dude, would be speeding off as fast as he could.

But what I'm saying is beyond the responsibility to protect the people in your vehicle you have the responsibility to avoid an accident if you are able to. This doesn't mean you have to sacrifice yourself or your passengers but if there is a safe accident avoidance maneuver available you need to use it. You can't just say "I didn't hit my brakes because it might cause a jacknife so I just cruised right into the other vehicle because it was his fault to begin with".

Really? It's never happened to you? Try living in the "Anger Belt", AKA the Northeastern USA. You'll get an eye-opening pretty quickly.
