I don't believe they see the trailer or even care. The highway is just a NASCAR track to them. It's more of a "There's my exit! I think I can make it" and go. I've even seen them cut across in front of marked police cars with light bars.

Maybe they thought it was the pace car???

I agree with your assessment of their mental state.

Very sad! Hard to watch the video. Knowing I`m towing something like that, I would take my chances and plow into the car/truck. you have a better chance of getting the animals through it alive rather than force them to bang around and or through the trailer!

    Terrible!

Horses are magestic animals and I'd hate to put one in harms way. But I wouldn't put a horse's life over that of a fellow human being (passengers in the car). Ever.

When you're towing livestock you may have to drive even more defensively than when towing anything else. That means watching what's going on around you and expecting others to do stupid things.

I spend too much time driving in the Houston area and can't begin to count how many drivers have cut across a few feet in front of me to exit from two or three lanes over. Haven't run into one of them yet or even come close to locking the brakes to avoid them. You just learn to watch for them.

The thought of ramming them has certainly crossed my mind but it would be the furthest thing from defensive driving imaginable. It is an enticing prospect though. ;)

  • Terrible. Idiots who used to cut in front of me when I was hauling horsed used to drive me crazy. What the hell do they think happens back in that trailer when you have to slam on the brakes.

That is extreamly sad, as the farther of a horse person, and having a love for then that is so sad.
To the OP sorry for your loss, that had to be a terrible experience. :(
  • Very hard to look at. They were very pretty horses too.
    What a waste.

I had no trouble viewing it.
