Have a friend with a motor home who said one should not turn the hot water heater on until you are ready to use hot water and then turn it off afterward. Never heard of such a thing. They are new...
Only on when we need it to be for showers. Heat water on stove for dishes.
Aside the monetary issue, keeping the tank hot will wear it, and the heating components faster, probably not an issue for those who don't live in their rigs, although I've always done the same in every sticks and bricks I've owned.
And BTW, it's a water heater, not a HOT water heater. That would be silly :)
