Or is the added cost of removing a slide going to bite me?If you will be away from power posts frequently, the added cost and complicaiton of a solar/battery/inverter system to keep the compressor based fridges going, makes propane advantageous.Maybe, but not in all cases. When I was working on my restoration I weighed the options and prices. I found that the price difference between a 120 V box and propane fired was enough to pay for a pretty good solar system. I decided to get the 120V model and install solar to run it. I don't regret that decision at all. If the sun shines, my little dorm fridge runs easily and the inverter also powers my entertainment gear, device chargers, etc. Solar is also the absolute best at charging the 12V system. I can't maintain batteries better than solar with a variety of chargers and 120V available.
Longevity is the only Joker in the deck regarding 120V fridges but the newer coolants and applicable compressors seem to be better about movement than their older siblings. Fortunately, if replacement becomes necessary, the cost for the 120V model is much less than the propane fired models.
