I use a rake that is older than me but that doesn't mean it's the best rake or even adequate. I get it, though. Absorption fridges can and do last a good while.
Mits22 has his measurement units mixed up. Devices draw amps, not amp hours. Amp hours is a measurement of draw over time. FWIW, my dorm fridge draws 80 watts, it runs on a 1/4 duty cycle. It uses 40-60AH//day. I don't need 400 AH of capacity to run it, especially with 235 W of solar. Larger compressor fridges are about the same.
I can certainly understand folks keeping their propane fired units while they work but if I had one, if it broke, I'd replace with a compressor unit before replacing the cooling unit.
Valhalla, if you run your catering business, don't you use lights and other electrical devices? An additional 80-100 watts of generator draw wouldn't seem like a deal-killer to me.
