For the pretrip, were you allowed to have a checklist when you did yours? Most of it is common sense, I guess, but its easy to overlook a detail.
no you are not must be from memory. I actualy failed my first one and had to redo the road test portion , still did the drive and passed that but had to come back in just for the pretrip. the issue I had was I assumed the examiners had at least 1/2 a brain and at my first tire I explaind what I am looking for and that I would be doing that at every tire. well even though I stoped and checked each tire but because I didnt say what I was looking for at each tire they said I only checked one tire. you have to say everything you are looking at. there are also things you wont have on your truck that you have to tell them you would check if you did have them, like oil pressure guages. like I said its a comercial walaround used for persoanl venhicles. also you have to have all the saftey equipment, Lighted triangles, wheel chalks and so on.
Steve - ssthrdExplorerThanks again, Steve. I appreciate your input. Shouldn't be too bad a deal.
- StirCrazyModeratorno just know the list by heart. vocaly tell them everything you check as you check it. little tip if you have a mirror on some sort of stand take that and place it behind your camper where you willbe able to see your brake and tail lights as you test them from the truck. other wise there is no way to check your brake lights by your self and my tester got a little snippy when I asked her to tell me if my brake lights were working. she is the one that sugested having a mirroe so I wcould do it myself.
Steve - ssthrdExplorerHaha! Awesome idea. I was going to just ask the tester to have a look. LOL.

Or bring a 2x4 to cram between the seat and brake pedal so you can walk back and check yourself. - StirCrazyModerator

haha, ya that would work but I dont like the idea of crming a 2x4 against my fancy leather seats. and sence we have to have the roadside marker kit when you have the house trailer endorsment, its not a big deal to add mirror.
Steve - ssthrdExplorerAny port in a storm, they say........... :)
- ssthrdExplorerAs a follow up, I took the drivers test this morning, and it was really just a piece of cake. The ICBC guide turned out to be the bible for the pre-trip, and the road test was a drive through city streets with lots of turns both left and right, and at the end I had to back into an abandoned parking lot with about a 30 foot wide entrance. Easy peasy.
I screwed up the last part a bit by not getting out to check the ground where he wanted me to go (which I always do, but had a brain fart this time) and I backed up maybe 10' before sounding the horn.
Backing up a 5er (for me at least) is a lot different than backing a TT. I am getting used to it now, but the first couple of times the trailer turned in before I expected it to, and I couldn't catch up to it fast enough to git er done.
Anyway.... This one is in the books. Thanks for your help, Guys.
Onward we go!
EDIT: I whittled a stick with a crotch on the end to put between the steering wheel and the brake pedal so I could check the brake lights myself. The examiner thought that was brilliant! Lol. SweetLou wrote:
And what if your are just visiting for a few weeks?
No worries. If you are legal in your own province or state you are legal in BC. Reciprocity agreements etc.- JarlaxleExplorer IIBinder clip on the manual button on the brake controller.
