Back in the day, I've had to use ice chests for group camping, it's just the cheap Coleman ones and we keep ice only in one or two of them and the only time they are opened is when the other's need more ice..
We covered them with old sleeping bags and keep them out of the sun during the day.
The other coolers have only food or only beverages in them. The one that gets opened most often is the beverage one obviously.. So, the other's don't use all that much ice compared to the beverage one..
Had ice for a full 5 day excursion with days in the 90's and 6 people, no hookups and the closest store was 25 miles away... 5 ice chests and only one RV fridge and we didn't even make any additional ice in the RV fridge..
Good luck!
