How do I open this Bargman 62 license plate light?

I have this Bargman 62 license plate light and need to replace a burned out bulb. I have not been able to figure out how to open it without breaking it. Pushing on what looks like a tab didn't ...

According to Bargman themselves, that 'not a good option' is indeed the option you need to take.
