I boated for over 50 years. I saw many boaters who were quick to drop $100-300,000 on a vessel complain about the price of gas, (which CAN be 50 cents or more per gallon higher than on the road) some to the tune of actually bringing hundreds of gallons to the boat via gas caddy devices. They would be quick to take their families out to dinner at marina rates at the local restaurants but squawk about the price of a 100 foot skien of 3/8" nylon line.
"Too expensive" is determined by the ends user and what they determine is a "fair" price for whatever goods and services they are seeking. When I boated I accepted the costs as part of the pleasure. If I was able to save money I did, but I rarely complained about the numbers.
