Hi,
I avoid KOA. I find them more expensive than similarly equipped independent RV parks. I do not find KOA to have superior facilities. I find KOA to have sardine can sized sites.
When I was part time, my trips included lots of boondocking with one night per week in a campground, and one day per week where I did not cook. I allowed myself the luxury of a hotel room from time to time. I rarely stayed in one spot more than 48 hours, until I reached my destination.
My favorite parks are run by small towns.

This the key point for comparing KOA prices to other RV parks. Comparing the price of a KOA to a no frills RV park is meaningless. You must compare apples to apples. If you prefer a park with few to no amenities other than the basics, fine. And comparing a KOA to a state or COE park is also meaningless. In one case they are trying to make enough profit to live on. In the other they would just like to break even, or at least no go to far in the hole.
